Sorry for this maybe old question,

I have found a lot of messages on this theme but i am still confused,
just trying to get a pci Fastethernet Card running

My system is :
alphaserver 1000A with the latest Firmware ( from the Firmware Update 5.8 )
installed. The card shows
>>>
DECchip 21143-AA ewa0.0.0.2001.0
...
the boot uerf output shows :

                                        tu0: DECchip 21143: Revision: 4.1
                                        tu0: auto negotiation capable device
                                        tu0: ethernet address checksum error
                                        - Failed to configure device in PCI
_bus 0, slot 12 with driver tu

... and no work - it is the ethernet Interface inside
( beside a running fddi -interface )
................................................
My confusion:
in another alpha ( xp1000 ) there is also such a card inside
(the same revision level ) and this is running
( at a lower firmware and at the same os-Version 4.0f )
Both have cables connected to the same switch ...
in this xp1000 it looks like:
                                        COMPAQ Professional Workstation XP1000
                                        pci1 at nexus
                                        tu0: DECchip 21143: Revision: 4.1
                                        tu0: auto negotiation capable device
                                        tu0 at pci1 slot 3
                                        tu0: DEC TULIP (10/100) Ethernet
                                         _Interface, hardware address:
                                         _00-00-F8-71-BC-14
                                        tu0: auto negotiation off: selecting
                                         _10BaseT (UTP) port: half duplex

........................................

Now could someone clarify :
how does it depend on using this 'DECchip 21143: Revision: 4.1'
        machine ?
or operatingsystem ? - on the two alphas its the same but
someone mentioned that on the same machine its no
problem to use the card together with linux
        or firmware ?
or are there some settings to try ( ie ewa0_mode ) ?

do I have a chance to use it in the alpaserver1000 or should I look
for another card ?
( the problem comes up because we soon won't have fddi available )

Thanks in advance ! --

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / best regards
Rainer Wolf
