Thanks to alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com and Antonio González for pointing out
that the "No such device or address" has nothing to do with device files
but indicates a communication error.
They also pointed me out the command "scu" with an extensive man page, and
the use of some commands. I tried among other the following
scu> show device
scu> tur (test unit ready)
scu> test (self test)
scu> read media starting 0 ending 100 compare off (read test)
The first works even with no CD in the caddy, the other require a CD.
Apparently they all work, and now I am able again to mount my CD !!
Glad to find there is no hardware problem !
