Hi all,

I have just spent a very frustrating weekend trying to upgrade Oracle
from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 on a 2100. Spent quite some hours with Oracle
Support trying to workout why the upgrade takes so bloody long. Well it
turns out that Oracle have desupported Alpha Systems below EV 5.6 - see
Oracle Note 111187.1 (see
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_i
d=111187.1&p_database_id=NOT -- requires a metalink ID). If you are
foolish enough to try this it will run in an emulated mode which is just
a touch slow!!

I had a great deal of difficulty finding this out. It is not in the
normal places you would expect to find this sort of information. Nothing
in the Install Guide, Release Notes or the Tru64 specific places in
Metalink. To the best of my knowledge we have had no notification of
this from Oracle or Compaq for that matter. So much for the much touted
Compaq/Oracle partnership!!!

Has any one got any more info on this? From my reading they do not
intend to release a patch to fix this - does anyone have any more clout
to get one?

Regards,
