Wow that was quick, thanks to Jesper Frank Nemholt. Here is his response.
As root do this :
logger "This is a test"
Afterwards you should have "This is a test" in
/var/adm/syslog.dated/current/user.log
If not, syslogd is broken. Restart it with :
/sbin/init.d/syslogd stop
/sbin/init.d/syslogd start
Stopping and restarting syslogd fixed it. I have no idea why it quit
working but oh well.
