Urgent problem on T64 5.1A - Corrupted defaults and ttys.db

Hello everyone,

Over the last couple of days I have been having considerable trouble with a DS20E running Tru64 5.1A.
It would seem that etc/auth/system/ttys.db and etc/auth/system/default keep getting corrupted.

Here is what gets written to the defaults file:

Something is very leaky! I am suspecting the prpasswd daemon is a fault.

Can anyone suggest a way to fix this easily ? I have kept the original copies of these files, however this is no longer fixing the problem, as the following demonstrates:
bash# telnet localhost
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.

In summary - HELP PLEASE :)

If anyone from Compaq knows of a patch for this can they please let me know ?

On that note, I noticed an old 5.1 problem has resurfaced with the systems wtmp file.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Adrian
