Oracle 8.1.7 and above on EV5 chipset

My company had the slow performance problem for about 6 months, with
calls logged to both
Oracle and COMPAQ.

Finally, Oracle admitted that only some EV5 chips fully support Oracle
8.1.7.
EV5 chips below about 330MHz lack new commands introduced in faster
chips.
Thus, EV5 chips up to 330Mhz runOracle 8.1.7 impossibly slowly in
EV5/6 emulation mode.
Machines running EV5 chips _at_ 466MHz or faster at my company all worked
fine.
