SUMMARY: HSG80 storage question

My question was if it was possible to break a mirror that is part of a
stripe set safely and if so, how.
Thanks to alan_at_nabeth, Allen Carpenter, Neil McCoy, Ronny Eliahu, Bruce
Hines,
Patrick Reidy, Ed Gallagher, Colin Bull, Kevin McDonnell, Mervyn Weiss, and
Jim
Kurtenbach for answers.

The general consensus was to go through the mirrors and do:
set <mirror name> nopolicy
set <mirror name> membership = 1
set <mirror name> remove=<disk name>

also suggested was:
reduce <disk name 1> ... <disk name n>
and this will remove the disks 1 -> n from the mirrors and reduce the
membership
and also wouldn't automatically add the disk to the failedset.

and to add them back after my storage crunch is over:
set <mirror name> membership=2
set <mirror name> replace=<disk name>
set <mirror name> policy=<appropriate policy>
