The servers all run database applications, 100's of users during the day and
then batch work overnight. The backups run from 20:00 to ~03:00. Offline
backup is of performed by closing the DB's, creating clone sets of each
ADVFS file set then restarting DB's (completed by 20:30) so batch work can
commence while the backups proceed. The boxes are therefore pretty busy all
the time.
My understanding is that defrag should not be performed on a busy system.
We have a routine schedule for reboot every 60 days (ish) on a Sunday so I
would like to incorporate the defrag with the reboot at a time when I can
ensure no DB usage.
Is this overkill? Well perhaps but it seems like the safest option. What do
you think? To much?
Kind regards
