Preflighting
Services
DIGITALTM Prepress Services can preflight
application source files for single-page artwork.
Examples of single-page publications include book covers,
cards and CD-ROM labels. CD-ROM labels can be accepted
only as source files. The following are requirements
for single-page source file submissions
- We can accept editable sources
from the Mac or PC graphics applications listed
below. We prefer files made with the currently
released version of each application or one
version previous. Adobe Illustrator V4.X for
Windows is not acceptable.
- We need files for all imported
(placed) images. Illustrator expects placed
images to be present even when they have been
saved with the Illustrator EPS file. Scanned
color images must be in process color (CMYK). EPS and TIFF
formats are both acceptable. If images must be
rotated, please rotate them in the image editing
application (e.g., Photoshop) before placing
them. This makes them print faster.
- Specify all fonts. We have
Adobes FontFolio8 CD-ROM that contains over
2300 typefaces. Any fonts you require that are not
on this CD must be sent to us. The same fonts are
available from the Adobe Type On Call CD-ROM. You
can also find these fonts on
Adobes Web page
. We will delete your fonts from our
systems after processing. Please note that
TrueType fonts are never acceptable.
- Specify all spot colors. Please
choose only Pantone Matching System (PMS) colors.
- We will need a hard copy or PDF
proof. We need to know the expected final
appearance of the job. If the design contains
color, a color proof is preferred. If the artwork
is to contain spot color, we will need you to
note the spot colors on the hard copy proof (hand
notation is fine). The quality of the color on
the final artwork depends upon how thoroughly you
specify it. For example, corporate logo colors
can be guaranteed only if they are specified as
spot colors.
We will preflight source files and
report any potential production problems. We may be able
to repair some errors. Other problems may need to be
solved at your end. The most typical problems found
during preflighting include:
- Missing or incorrectly specified
spot colors.
- Missing images.
- Missing fonts.
- TrueType fonts.
