Necessary Software to support SATAN

Perhaps I'm a little more unprepared than most others, but I haven't
seen any discussion on Farmer's decision to place SATAN on the Internet
for free.

I can do a good job making a VAX with DECnet bullet-proof in a network,
but I'm rather new to unix environments and IP networking. As such, I'm
sure that I've got holes waiting for someone to step through. I, like
others, will be attempting to D/L this software from the net on April
5th, but I need to locate the development tools needed to drive the
SATAN package.

The recent issue of IW states that all you need is a copy of the
freeware PERL compiler, a Web Browser like Mosaic or Netscape. I would
prefer sources over binaries since I need it for both an Alpha platform
and an Ultrix system.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.
