DPW500au shows no PK device after INIT command?

Gentle folk,

How does one set the SCSI reset delay time in a DPW500au system?

We recently obtained some refurbished
Digital Personal Workstation 500au systems.
They came with no SCSI host adaptors, so we separately purchased
DEC KZPBA interfaces (Qlogic ISP1040, firmware v5.57).

The KZPBA SCSI host adaptor is visible as PKC0 immediately after a
system is powered on and the attached devices are also visible.
However, it is *not* visible after one types an INIT command at
the >>> prompt, and no PKC0 device is displayed when one types the
SHOW DEVICES command. (The integrated EIDE interfaces are visible
as PQA0 and PQB0, though.)

I suspect that some delay needs to be introduced between the time
the buses are initialized and the SCSI host adaptor is polled, but
I don't see any obvious console variable to control this.

The DPWs are running SRM V7.0-11, dated Apr 15 1999.
The same symptoms are seen when using SCSI host adaptors from
IntraServer Technologies, Inc, which work fine in other systems.

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

Selden
