Summary: using the build-in filters located in /usr/lbin and the
description files in /usr/lbin/pcf, I do not seem to be able to get the
carriage-return-after-linefeed problem solved for an older HP printer which
does not have the switch built-in.
Details:
My printcap looks like this:
XXX|lp14:\
:if=/usr/lbin/pcfof +Cgeneric_text.pcf:\
:lf=/usr/adm/lp14err:\
:lp=:\
:of=/usr/lbin/pcfof +Cgeneric_text.pcf:\
:rm=XXXX.unmc.edu:\
:sd=/usr/spool/lpd14:
The man page indicates that pcfof interprets the description files in the
/usr/lbin/pcf directory and enables the features described there.
the generic_text.pcf contains the lines:
newline:\015\012
return:\015
newpage:\015\014
Which I interpret to mean that it should, when it finds a newline, insert a
carriage-return into the text, as well as retaining the line-feed.
Am I wrong in my interpretation? What have I left out? Obviously I am
writing this because plain text prints a line, steps to the next line, and
continues to the right, stair-stepping down until it falls off the right
hand side of the page.
