Summary. lpd timeout then printjob restarted

Dear managers,

The question was:

My users try to print large files. Often the printers run out of paper and
then lpd reprints the job.

The log shows the following entries.

lpd[19229]: WARNING -- write_chars: only 0 bytes of 8192 requested were
written before timeout of 300 seconds
lpd[19229]: INFO -- sendfile: write failed -- return REPRINT

The answer is:

This is a official bug in tru64-UNIX version 4.0F.
There is a patch available (PATCH ID: OSF440-254)
it 's part of duv40fas0003-20000225.tar.

This solved our problem.

Another proposal was, to have a look at Advanced Printing Software.
