Dear managers,
I have the opportunity to purchase 2 Intraserver ITI-4280UE controllers
(each containing 2 wide SCSI ports and 1 DE500 network adapter port). To
check these beforehand, I booted genvmunix (V4.0f) on a PW433 au. The
booted system ran smoothly but I got the following
boot messages on the console (and in kern.log):
... vmunix: Checksum read error.
... vmunix: *** Attempt to run on unsupported adapter ***
... vmunix: - Failed to configure device in PCI bus 2000, slot 0 with
driver itpsa
... vmunix: ...attempting to configure with next matching driver
... vmunix: psiop0 at pci2000 slot 0
... vmunix: siop_pci_initialize: Warning - Using unsupported 53c875 scsi
chip
... vmunix: Loading SIOP: script c0004a00, reg 81062100, data 40a24990
... vmunix: scsi2 at psiop0 slot 0
... vmunix: rz16 at scsi2 target 0 lun 0 (LID=1) (IBM
DNES-309170W SAH0) (Wide16)
A little investigation revealed that these controllers come in several
flavours (not uncommon in DECland): one type is meant for Linux
(formerly NT) only, the other types are for VMS and Unix. Obviously I'm
offered the wrong type of device! But, on the other hand, if I take them
(they're really cheap) and ignore the error messages on boot, will I run
into trouble? Are there any other UW controllers available for Tru64?
Thanks in advance, I'll summarize.
Regards
Peter
