Well, it appears not many of us have familarity with localization. I received one response. Which seems to instruct me to install localization. That is the problem, localization is installed and one of the programs does not like it. Upon investigation, I am going to try unloading the the setld set on a test machine and see it that does it. I'll let you folks know.

****** Here is the original query to the list:
Is there a way to change the localization without reinstalling? I know about setlocale but the docs I have read seem to indicate it only affects a particular process/program.
The system was originally installed with localization and is using utf8 character set. Problem there is a software package that needs to be installed that does not currently support it.

Thanks for any pointers.

In my case, it only took loading WorldWide Lang Support and rebooting.
Perhaps evenrebooting could have been substituted with X restart.
Nix.
