This is quite a late summary, but thanks to Selden Ball, Ed Murphy, Guy
Loucks, Iwao Makino, and of course Dr. Tom Blinn for responding.
I got several messages telling me about the DEGPA-SA (fiber) NIC - I was
really asking if there was a copper-based NIC available, but didn't
phrase my question very clearly.
Dr. Tom Blinn came to the rescue, saying that there is a copper-based
NIC (Alteon-based, like the DEGPA) being tested in Compaq's labs,
although he didn't know a date for completion or shipping. That's good,
I mainly wanted to know if there was one under way, and it sounds as if
there is...
We also touched upon the subject of port trunking using Cisco Fast
Etherchannel as another possible way to increase bandwidth (say with the
DE504-BA quad fast interface). Seems that this might be a useful
alternative to both GigE and NetRAIN.
