This page covers using using software that requires an NDIS driver (such as the Microsoft SMB/LanMan client or Windows for Workgroups) on top of the NetWare DOS client using an NDIS to ODI shim.
Running Windows Networking alongisde the NetWare client is pretty easy to do. How you do it depends on the version of Windows for Workgroups (3.1 or 3.11) and the NetWare client you're using:
Note that the Client32 and the VLM client require Windows for Workgroups 3.11 - they are not compatible with WFW 3.1. If you want to use Windows for Workgroups v3.1 or the Windows for Workgroups Add-on you've got to use the old NETX client.
These have no built-in networking (so no NDIS involved) but they do support 3rd party network stacks. This is likely only compatible with the ancient NetWare DOS Shell (NETX) client. This AppNote has all the deatails on how to do it with Windows 3.0.
If you want to try you'll also need the full NetWare DOS Client Kit. The only version of this to have been released for public download (that I can find) is version 3.01 which is only compatible with DOS 3.1-4.0. You can grab it from this page along with all the updates necessary to bring it up to the latest version (3.32ptf of 1994). If you want to run DOS 5 or 6 you'll probably have to either start off with DOS 4 and upgrade to DOS 5 or 6 after the client is installed and updated, or try and build an updated client kit by combining the 3.01 kit with all the updates.
ODINSUP is the shim that lets software written for NDIS drivers to use ODI drivers and so run alongside the NetWare client. This Tech Note from February 1993 has a lot of detail on using ODINSUP along with examples for a variety of software.
These two AppNotes discuss using ODINSUP to allow the NetWare DOS Shell (NETX) Client and IBM LAN Server Client to co-exist on the same workstation. Some of this information probably applies to the VLM client and other NDIS software as the ODI and NDIS bits won't have changed much.
I'm not a netware expert, don't have any of those fancy novell certifications and have never administred a netware network; I've just played with it at home occasionally since 2004 or so.
