Menu:
A quick tour of the Microsoft Client Service for NetWare on Windows NT Workstation 4.0.
Fresh install of Windows NT Workstation 4.0
To install the client, go into the services tab in the Network control panel (Network Neighbourhood properties) and click the Add btutton.
And select the Client Service for NetWare.
The NT Install CD will be required of course.
Installed!
IPX/SPX protocol has also been installed. Close the control panel.
And click Yes to reboot.
Same old Ctrl+Alt+Delete thing.
Same login screen.
After logging into windows you get to login to NetWare!
This client supports NDS too! Its not going to work though - there is no "Administrator" account on my netware server.
So I let it fail to login and I'm going to add a new local account with a username and password that matches an account on the NetWare server.
Done! Time to log off and try again
Logging in with an account that exists both locally and on NetWare with the same password.
This time it should work.
The login script runs! NT 3.5x doesn't do that.
Mapped drives
Nothing interesting in the properties
No interesting file properties either. Need the proper Novell client to manage permissions.
Network Neighbourhood shows all the NDS stuff.

Thats about all there is to see. Pretty basic but all the important stuff is there unlike in previous iterations.
I'm not a netware expert, don't have any of those fancy novell certifications and have never administred a netware network; I've just played with it at home occasionally since 2004 or so. Email me if you've got any suggestions or corrections for this page or any extra information you think is worth including here. My address is david at this websites domain name (without the www bit of course).
