I've got NetWare 4.11 running in a VM (excessive screenshots). Now I'm installing the client provided on the IntraNetWare 4.11 CD.
Things you'll need to follow along:
We're starting from a clean install of MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 with the NetWare 4.11 CD in the drive.
The installer on the CD is \products\doswin32\ibm_6\setup.exe
Pick a language.
Lets continue! The readme is dated 22/08/96.
Yeah, I suppose I agree.
Defaults look good.
More questions!
This driver ought to work for the pcnet II
Lets just go with the defaults for now.
Copying files...
Lets reboot!
Success! We're attached to the server via IPX!
Some new netware stuff. Lets login...
The login screen
Looks like everything is working properly! Looks like the installation is done!
Now that its installed and working, lets have a look around!
File properties window has a NetWare button if the file is on a NetWare volume
The NetWare button brings up additional NetWare properties for the file.
This menu item in File Manager opens NetWare User Tools
Drive Connections
Printer Connections
NetWare Connections
Send Messages
That NetWare Info... button
This is the fourth button from the right with the key
User Tools
NetWare tab
Startup tab. Looks like this is where we'd make the login screen come up when we start windows (Launch on Startup). The Login if Authenticated checkbox looks like it makes you login on startup even if you already logged in from DOS.
Login tab
I send a broadcast message from the server console: send Hello, World! and this is the result:
Looks like we get the entire SYS volume mapped to F drive
Z drive seems to be the same
Found the 16bit version of NetWare Administrator!
NetWare Administrator Splash Screen
Not sure what this means
Did you know...
The NDS tree! Pretty empty (this is a fresh server install). This is where you setup users, etc.
The login command lives on F drive by default. As you can see the default directory for F drive is already the login directory so you can just type login to continue
Enter a username...
Enter a password...
And we're logged in!
This is what F drive looks like when not logged in
I'm not a netware expert, don't have any of those fancy novell certifications and have never administred a netware network; I've just played with it at home occasionally since 2004 or so.
